| 1.
Do you do home
tuition? |
|
Sadly
we do not offer home tuition. All of our tuition is
delivered to students at our education centre in
Smallfield,
Surrey
. The main reason for this is that we have found
students who make the effort to attend classes at our
centre do better academically. |
| 2.
How much are
lessons? |
|
The
cost of lessons depends upon the experience of the
tutor, the difficulty of the subject and at what time
of the year the student signs up. Typically lessons in low season (July to September) can start at
£17 per hour; in high season (September – June) lessons
range can go upto £35 per hour. Students starting in
the low season are given a discount through the high
season. We never raise our prices for existing
customers. Consequently some students that have been
with us for four years are enjoying 35% discounts. |
| 3.
Do you do group
tuition? |
|
Yes
we do, but students must meet three criteria. Firstly
they must have had at least four one to one lessons,
secondly there must be another suitable student for
them to form a group and thirdly, the student, tutor
and fee-payer are in agreement. |
| 4.
What are the
Qualifications of your tutors? |
|
We have nine grades of Tutor. Grade one turotrs are Upper Six Form students that are studying a
chosen subject at a level beyond A-level and have
received intensive tutor training from their Senior
Tutors. All tutors grade four and above have the minimum of a
Batchelor’s Degree. All tutors grade seven and above have a miminum of a Batchelors degree and minimum of five years education experience. |
| 5.
Is the
confidentiality of my child assured? |
|
Yes
it is. We do make inquiries at the students’ school,
but we do not mention the student’s name. By law we
are not allowed to disclose any information about
students to third parties. We will only disclose
information about a child if we have yours and the
students consent or unless by a contradictory law we
are required to do so (e.g. under the Child Protection
Act) |
| 6.
Where are you
based and what are are your premises? |
|
We
are based in Smallfield,
Surrey
and work from Study rooms in a family home. |
| 7.
Do your tutors
have teaching qualifications? |
|
Some
do. However the skills of a tutor are very much
different from that of a teacher and so a teaching
qualification carries no weight for the services we
provide. All tutors are trained in house and are
yearly approved for tutoring by the Head Tutor. |
| 8.
How many
students do you have? |
|
We
have a capacity of 210 students and currently have
around 50 students. This is likely to double at the
height of the season. |
| 9.
How many tutors
do you have? |
|
Currently
we have 4 tutors, but throughout the year we take on
as many as 15. |
| 10.
I don’t want my
child to have an interview, is it necessary? |
|
Yes,
it is necessary. Primarily interviews are carried for
the student to demonstrate their willingness to learn.
Secondarily the interview is carried out to assess the
student’s needs and to determine how best we can
help them. This is done to ensure fee payers do not
waste any money. The interview is free. Although
students are a little nervous at first even the
younger students are happy at the end. |
| 11.
What happens if
my child fails the interview? |
|
Your
child will either be referred to another recommend
tutoring agency or we will offer them a probationary
trial, typically one month with a review at the
end. |
